Go against the Mighty Wind.

Prototype of an idea of a platformer in which a constant randomized burst of wind influences all physics of the world.

The Mighty Wind is a strange phenomenon that randomly appears where a constant flow of wind gusts throughout the world changes direction randomly, causing people to fall off the floating platforms, falling towards the black void. The world is no longer uniform, as the black void encapsulates the surface, life resorts to reside only around floating isles and large chunks of ground above the sky. However, the mighty wind causes them to slowly move along with it, causing multiple collisions and entities to fall over the platforms and eventually die into the bottomless void. Vane, the player, is a powerful mercenary chosen by the government and was tasked to go to the destroyed Velo City in search of the source of the mighty wind. There, the player must traverse through multiple parkour and platforms and attack so-called enemies called the “Windcatchers” to find the source of the mighty wind, caused by a large roaring fan at the heart of Velo City.

Mechanics

The Mighty Wind

The Mighty Wind is a universal mechanic in the game that changes strength and direction according to level conditions. The Mighty Wind affects all gravity-affected entities, especially the player. For example, a player can get knocked out of the world with the Mighty Wind, an explosive barrel will fly away and may hit other objects, this allows for difficulty for the player as the player’s goal is to go against the wind.

Flow of the Mighty Wind

Mighty Wind in some stages changes its behavior randomly. It affects every rigidbody in the stage, but its strength can be negated or smaller depending on an entity’s weight. Weight basically determines how affected an entity is by the wind.

Some stages or parts of the stage are where the Mighty Wind will be specifically locked in one direction and strength. For example, in a stage where you must go up from a series of walls, the mighty wind pushes down preventing you from going up, where you must either dash upwards to solve it.

There are also safe spots in the stage where the mighty wind is not affected in this area of the stage.

There is a wind vane that shows the direction of where the wind will be blowing.

Enemies

 

The Windcatchers are small drone-like creatures controlled and influenced by the Eye of Sauron.

 

The Eye of Sauron is the controller of the mighty wind, an evil creature created by bursts of air, it seeks to maintain the strength of the wind throughout the planet.
